HOLY COMMUNION

Lutheran historical documents referring to Holy Communion:

“It is taught among us that the true body and blood of Christ are really present in the Supper of our Lord under the form of bread and wine and are there distributed and received.” (Augsburg Confession, Article x)

“We are talking about the presence of the living Christ, knowing that ‘death no longer has dominion over him.’” (Apology of the Augsburg Confession, Article xxiv)

“The ‘how’ of Christ’s presence remains as inexplicable in the sacrament as elsewhere.  It is a presence that remains ‘hidden’ even though visible media are used in the sacrament.  The earthly element is … a fit vehicle of the divine presence and it, too, the common stuff of our daily life, participates in the new creation which has already begun.” (The Sacrament of the Altar and Its Implications, United Lutheran Church in America, 1960)

On Sunday, July 3, 2005, BRENDEN BARTOSEK, WADE LAWSON, GRIFFIN SCHROCK, LODEN SNELL and AMELIA WARNOCK received the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time.  Prior to receiving Communion, they attended classes where they learned about the roots of this celebration in the Jewish festival of Passover and learned how Jesus first used this Sacrament to teach his disciples how he would always be with them.  They learned how Christians see Communion as Jesus’ way of being with us now and forgiving our sins.

We congratulate them on their very special day.

PLEASE VOLUNTEER TO HELP!

STORYBOOK PROJECT.

Imagine not being able to guide, give words of encouragement,

or tell your children or grandchildren

how much you love them.

Storybook Project, a program of Lutheran-Episcopal Services of Mississippi,

enables inmates – both women and men –

at Central Mississippi Correctional Center

to communicate with their children through the media of voice and print.

Volunteers distribute books, record inmate’s readings, package,

and mail tapes and books to children that may not visit their parents for months, or even years.

These men and women are sincerely grateful

for the opportunity to reach out and

feel a part of their child’s life.

.

To volunteer, contact Ron Tillman at  601-605-0839 or Email rtillman@jam.rr.com.

A big “THANK YOU

to the teachers, assistants and helpers who helped make Vacation Bible School so successful.  A special “Thank You” goes to Brett and Nora Lawson for all the food they donated.

Nobody went hungry and the food was enjoyed by all!

Meal/Praise/Bible Study

The first “Meal/Praise/Bible Study” was a great success.

Jim Groff and his “staff” gave us a tasty meal in the fellowship hall beginning at 6:00 pm.

We then all gathered in the church for singing several hymns lead by Johnson George,

then a short  Bible study was led by Pastor.

The next “Meal/Praise/Bible Study” is scheduled for Wednesday, July 20, 2005, beginning at 6:00 pm.

Everyone is welcome – the  fellowship, singing and Bible study is a wonderful experience we will all enjoy.

Hope to see everyone on 7/20/05!
