Youth Activities

Youth Education & Youth Group

Matching the youth philosophy of the ELCA, at Ascension we celebrate that the words of God are in the mouths of our young people. For this reason, we seek to encourage our youth in their faith walk towards a life of discipleship and service.

Youth Sunday School is for Youth Grades 9+ with occasional visits from college students home for the weekend. Timely topics of faith are discussed.

Ascension’s Youth Group is mentored by Ascension’s Youth Director, Pastor Clark, Diaconal Minister Sandra Braasch and volunteers throughout the congregation. The group meets regularly with a goal of spiritual growth through fellowship. On the horizon is the return of weekly gatherings over a meal for study and fellowship. Programming is typically for Grades 7-12, however youth in Grade 6 are often invited to join.

  • Salvation Army Christmas Angel Tree Coordination
  • 30-Hour Famine benefiting World Vision
  • Lutherock Confirmation Camp / Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP)
  • Fellowship meal sponsorships and fundraisers to support Youth programming
  • Lock-Ins

Confirmation Instruction – Grades 7 & 8

The ELCA task force offers these suggestions for creative and effective confirmation ministry:

Confirmation

  • flows from baptism
  • is the responsibility of the entire congregation
  • involves a variety of people and approaches
  • benefits young people best when there are a variety of models and learning

At Ascension, we recognize confirmation not only as an educational opportunity, but also as youth ministry. Our confirmation ministry builds on our Lutheran heritage, seeking “strengthen the spirit” while affirming faithfulness, discipleship, and lifelong learning. The group meets for weekly lessons with the Confirmation Instructors during the Sunday School hour and for special sessions with Pastor Clark.
